The Chicago Bears will open and close their 2023 regular season against the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Thursday night as part of their full schedule release.The first Bears-Packers game after the Aaron Rodgers era will be in the season opener Sept. 10 at Soldier Field. Fans are expected to get their first good look at the Packers under new quarterback Jordan Love. 5.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Northern California

(KTXL) — A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck in Northern California Thursday afternoon around 4:19 p.m., with the shaking felt across the northern half of the state, including the Pacific coast, and parts of Nevada. Preliminary readings had the quake at 5.7 and then 5.4 magnitudes, but the USGS website updated its reading to 5.5. The quake struck about 2.5 miles southwest of the community of East Shore near Lake Almanor, about 120 miles directly northeast of Sacramento, according to the USGS.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said there was no tsunami warning, advisory, watch or threat related to the California earthquake. The California Highway Patrol said that the earthquake caused a disruption at the agency's Chico dispatch center, and that 911 lines are currently down. SAN DIEGO -- An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in San Ysidro last month, according to San Diego police.Authorities were first notified of the shooting around 10:20 p.m. on April 7, located outside a home in the 100 block of East Park Avenue.Upon arrival, officers from the SDPD Southern Division found a man in front of the home with a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. Officers attempted life-saving measures on the victim until paramedics with San Diego-Fire Rescue arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital.The victim was declared dead at 11:06 p.m. at the hospital by medical personnel, according to SDPD Lt. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department asked a judge Thursday to put on hold a scheduled deposition of Donald Trump in a lawsuit brought by an FBI agent who was fired over text messages critical of the former president.The government said in a federal court filing that a judge should order lawyers for Peter Strzok to take the deposition of FBI Director Christopher Wray before they seek to question Trump. The Justice Department says an interview with Wray may eliminate the need for Trump’s deposition, and that if the judge handling the lawsuit does not grant its request, it will ask a federal appeals court to intervene.Lawyers for Trump support the Justice Department’s position, according to a footnote in the government’s filing, while Strzok’s attorneys oppose it. GENEVA (AP) — The United Nation’s top human rights body adopted a resolution Thursday that drew attention to mounting civilian deaths and rights abuses in Sudan since a bloody conflict erupted between the African country’s two top generals last month.The violence in Sudan has so far killed more than 600 people, including civilians, and displaced hundreds of thousands. The fighting has also spread to other regions, namely the restive Darfur province. The Human Rights Council — made up of 47 U.N. member states — narrowly passed the resolution with 18 states voting for the resolution, 15 against and 14 other nations abstaining. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice has lent its support to a religious nonprofit that was penalized and threatened with criminal prosecution by the Southern California city of Santa Ana for feeding homeless people.A lawsuit by Micah’s Way claims Santa Ana infringed on the nonprofit’s right to religious exercise when the city ordered it to stop distributing food and drinks at its resource center. The city denied the group’s certificate of occupancy and warned it could be fined and prosecuted for allegedly violating municipal code.
