DENVER (KDVR) — On Saturday, the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers secured its spot in the NCAA Division II Football Semifinals and are ranked No. 1 in the country going into next Saturday's game.After the team's win against Central Washington University on Dec. 2, it's the first time in program history the team hit a record of 13 wins and zero losses.This is the Orediggers' third consecutive trip to the NCAA semifinals. A high-speed pursuit in Fort Lauderdale concluded with a crash at the intersection of Commercial Boulevard and Powerline Road, leaving a Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputy injured and several others hurt. The incident unfolded in Lauderdale Lakes on Northwest 41st Street and 31st Avenue, Monday morning. Authorities announce death of driver involved in Friday rollover crash in Haverhill

Massachusetts State Police say a rollover crash that happened on I-495 in Haverhill on Friday resulted in the death of the driver.An MSP spokesperson said 62-year-old David Ziembko of New Britain, Connecticut, had been traveling southbound on the interstate when his 2017 Honda CR-V left the roadway and entered a grassy median before striking a guardrail.The rollover crash happened near the Route 97 overpass and led to rescue crews extricating Ziembko after they responded and found the CR-V on its roof.“Mr. Ziembko was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” MSP spokesperson Dave Procopio stated in a news release.Procopio added that the facts and circumstances of the crash remained under investigation, including whether the driver suffered a medical event prior to going off of the highway.

Two people died Saturday night after a person driving the wrong way down Route 395 south in Webster tragically collided with another car head on, according to Massachusetts State Police.At about 10:17 p.m. Saturday night, preliminary evidence shows a GMC Sierra pickup truck was driving north in the left lane of the southbound side of Route 395, State Police said in a release Sunday.A 2012 Honda CRV sport utility vehicle was headed down the same lane.Around mile marker 2.6 near Exit 3, police said, the truck hit the Honda head on in the southbound left lane.Both the driver of the Sierra, Jordan Pimentel, 31, of Auburn, Massachusetts, and the Honda, Kayla Morey, 35, of Dayville, Connecticut, sustained fatal injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.The vehicles were towed and secured for further investigation, the release states. More than 25,000 homes and businesses were without electricity in Maine as trees and branches laden with heavy, wet snow fell on power lines, officials said.The National Weather Service declared the first winter storm warning of the season for New Hampshire and western Maine. Northernmost Vermont was also under a winter storm warning on Monday. Far northern Maine, also under a warning, already saw heavy snow before Thanksgiving.Some mountainous areas of western Maine and New Hampshire could see over a foot of snow. IIHF mandating neck guards for all levels of competition

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is mandating neck guards for all levels of IIHF competition.In a statement Monday, the IIHF said when exactly the mandate will go into effect for “senior categories” — those over the U20 and U18 categories where neck laceration protector were already required — “will be determined by the supply situation.”Until the mandate takes effect, the IIHF says it “continues to strongly recommend that neck laceration protectors are worn by all players performing in an IIHF competition.”“The IIHF remains in close contact with its suppliers to ensure they are able to respond to the current high demand,” the federation added.The move will mean neck guards will be required for play at the Olympics and World Championships.This all comes after the October death of American hockey player Adam Johnson, a former NHLer whose neck was cut by a skate blade during a game in England.
