SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Access to abortion is essentially locked down in Illinois. But Democrats are looking for ways to further protect the practice and its availability, including to outsiders who potentially face home-state penalties for seeking treatment here. Legislation approved by both houses of the General Assembly include requiring Illinois insurers to cover abortion-inducing drugs, penalizing crisis pregnancy centers if they distribute inaccurate information and requiring colleges to offer reduced-price emergency contraception on campus. Reaching beyond the borders is a high-tech House-approved measure that would require that interstate agreements over license-plate reading technology include a promise they not be used to track people traveling to Illinois for an abortion. Missouri AG drops quo warranto case against Kim Gardner

ST. LOUIS - Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has dropped his quo warranto lawsuit against Kim Gardner, one day after she resigned from duties as the St. Louis Circuit Attorney. Bailey originally filed a writ of quo warranto against Gardner on Feb. 23, accusing her of neglecting her duties as circuit attorney. He amended his petition last month to include additional allegations of neglect. An investigation after a 23-year-old worker’s death in a trench collapse in Aurora has found that a sewer and water contractor the man worked for did not adequately train and protect its workers.Coronado Excavation, sewer and water repair services based in Brighton, failed to follow safety standards and properly train employees, according to a U.S. Department of Labor news release.Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found that the contractor exposed workers to trench hazards, the release said.In December, an unprotected trench at an Aurora residential worksite collapsed killing Marcos Guerro-Badillo at the Eastman Drive worksite.“The collapse occurred while employees installed residential pipes and their employer failed to use adequate protective systems in the trench as required by law,” the release said.In addition, “OSHA found Coronado Excavation had not trained workers on trenching and excavation hazards and did not...

A Los Angeles Police Department volunteer is on the mend and recovering in the hospital after he was attacked by a swarm of bees in Encino Monday.The volunteer, identified only as Gary, was stung anywhere from 50-100 times as he tried to help with traffic control in a residential neighborhood that was actively being terrorized by a swarm of aggressive bees.Gary is an Air Force veteran who has been an LAPD volunteer for nearly 18 years, according to his son, Daniel. The terrifying attack happened around 5 p.m. on the 17100 block of West Adlon Road. Woman Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Crash Near Mountain Vista StreetLAS VEGAS, NV (May 17, 2023) – Monday evening, a pedestrian crash on East Flamingo Road claimed the life of Deborah Bishop.
